hiking the noah trail

last week we took a hike around nay aug park for something different to do.  we've hiked around nay aug park many times over the years, but never noticed that one of the trails is named the noah trail.  it was the first time we hiked around with noah in the papoose and he really enjoyed it.  we had to stop and take a picture with him next to the noah trail sign!

hiking around ice lake

the weather was gorgeous on saturday, so after we ran some errands we met up with my parents to walk around ice lake.  it's always such a pretty view on that trail.

a saturday afternoon walk around the lake

we had the day free on saturday, so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and take a walk around lake scranton.  we headed up there with a little picnic lunch which we enjoyed before walking the 3.8 mile trail around the lake.  it wasn't too crowded and was really peaceful.

we saw chipmunks, squirrels, geese, and baby deer on our walk.  a nice little afternoon date.

hawk falls

after we hiked the "shades of death" trail with my parents at hickory run state park on sunday, we then hiked a much shorter trail called "hawk falls."  it lead to a waterfall which was really pretty, but super crowded with swimmers since it was such a hot day (mind you, the signs did say "no swimming" but no one seemed to be paying attention to the signs).

we only stayed for a little bit since there were so many people there.

hiking hickory run state park

we had such a great time hiking the waterfalls at rickett's glen state park last weekend, so we thought we'd try another state park this weekend.

on sunday, we met up with my parents at hickory run state park to hike the waterfall trail.  the trail was named "shades of death" which sounds so ominous.  i have no idea why they named it that because it was absolutely beautiful!

we enjoyed hiking under the canopy of trees along the water.  it was so peaceful to see the babbling stream alongside the trail.  we were pleasantly surprised to find that there were several small waterfalls along the trail and one huge waterfall.  it was such a great getaway!

hiking the waterfalls at rickett's glen state park

we had the day off on sunday and we were looking for a fun outing, so we drove out to rickett's glen state park to hike the waterfalls.  i had never been there before, and ryan hadn't been there since he was in boy scouts, so we were excited to check it out.

we loaded up the truck and packed a lunch.  it was such a pretty drive out to the state park.  when we arrived, we found a shaded area to set up our camp chairs and eat our picnic lunch.  (thanks, mom, for sending us home with leftovers from our 4th of july picnic.  it made the perfect lunch!)

after lunch, we hiked the waterfalls for over 3 hours.  we sure put a lot of miles on our hiking boots!  going into this, i guess i envisioned a leisurely trail alongside waterfalls.  i had no idea that we would literally be hiking up and down the sides of the falls.  the trail started off easy and then got nuts.  it was crazy and quite the workout!

the scenery was absolutely beautiful.  i kept saying that it was so pretty that it actually looked fake, like we were walking through a movie set or something.

here are some pictures from our adventure . . .
