a wrapping and unwrapping helper

leko loves to be involved in anything that included boxes, tissue paper, and wrapping paper.  when we were wrapping our gifts for mother's day, it took a long time until we could get the box back from him in order to wrap it.  he kept sitting in the box, attacking the tissue paper, and "stapling" the cardboard with his teeth!

when it came time for our mamas to unwrap their gifts, leko was there to help again and to lay claim to the wrapping paper.

mother's day 2019

our families got together yesterday at our house for lunch to celebrate our mamas on mother's day.  we made a thai-inspired lunch with strawberry shortcake for dessert.  it was nice to get together with everyone on mother's day.  we're so grateful for our mamas, not just on mother's day but year round, and for all that they do for us!

cruel stagehand jokes that make me laugh

this past week of working on cinderella made everyone quite punchy.  a few of the dancers and dancer moms were complaining that one of the stage hands was "mean" because he was asking them to get out of the way while moving a large piece of scenery.  they complained that they got their feelings hurt (insert eye roll here) so he picked up a coloring book and crayons on his lunch break when he went to texas road house.  when he returned from break, he taped the coloring book and crayons to the dimmer rack along with a sign that said "emotional support station."  he said if anyone else complained about getting their feelings hurt he was going to send them over there to color to make them feel better.  i got a good laugh out of that and couldn't resist snapping a picture.

here's my p.s.a. for the day: get the heck out of the way if stage hands are moving heavy scenery.  we have jobs to do and cues to hit in very little time.  we can't be worried about running your body over!

way too many lights

well, we survived (barely) the last eight days of a large-scale ballet production of cinderella that was in our theatre.  it was ridiculously huge and included way too many lights.  all shows take a lot of time, but my hours clocked in at 88.5 from sunday to sunday just on this production alone.  that's me working more than two full-time jobs worth of hours!!!   no wonder i'm exhausted.

on to the next show!

behind the scenes

my goodness, the past week was insane at the theatre with a large-scale ballet production (more on that later).  i'm beyond delirious from the long, long hours. 

for now, i'll leave you with this picture of a rare look inside an intelligent moving light instrument.  several had to be taken apart this week for repair during the production.  it's not everyday that you get to see inside one of these things.  it was fascinating getting to see each component up close.

in the zone

over 20 feet high in the air, on a genie lift, focusing lights for a local high school's music concert.  that's my ryan in the zone!

we're in the theatre today for the first of several productions of the cinderella ballet.  fingers crossed!

this guy keeps us laughing

oh my gosh, where do i even begin? 

last week we sat down on the couch for a few minutes to get a bite to eat.  leko jumped up on ryan's lap and passed out for a nap.  the way he fell asleep left us laughing uncontrollably!  his arms looked like a goal post.  there's no way that was a comfortable position!

ryan snapped this photo on his phone on friday night at the theatre when he was in the balcony.  we both loved the look of the color of the lights on the marley floor. 

we're still chugging away here at the theatre working on the cinderella ballet.  fingers crossed we don't go insane!
