stage work during quarantine

although we don't have any shows going on in the theatres where we work, there is a little bit of stage work going on during this time of quarantine. we've deep cleaned the lights, fixed a bunch of things that were broken, and most recently worked on replacing parts on the counterweight system. i've enjoyed getting to work with ryan on stage even though we aren't doing our shows like we originally planned.

this guy gets in the funniest positions when he naps. the other day i was working and peeked in the bedroom to find leko in this position. he woke up from his nap but was airing out his belly since it was a warm day. what a cutie!

a socially-distant graduation in quarantine

despite being in the middle of a pandemic, notre dame high school found a creative way for their seniors to graduate on saturday by holding a socially-distant graduation outside at pocono raceway. we were thrilled to be able to go and see colin's graduation in person!

it's so hard to believe that it has already been four years since colin graduated from 8th grade and now it's time for him to graduate high school and go to college!

it was so special to be able to see him graduate! we're so proud of colin for being valedictorian and for winning a handful of awards at graduation too!

here are a few photos from the day . . .

^we went with my parents in their car. the graduates were in cars with their families and guests were parked behind the graduates.^

^waiting for the ceremony to start.^

^ryan found a creative way to prop up his phone on the driver's seat so that we could see the screen from the backseat.^

^we watched the ceremony on the jumbo screens and it was also broadcast on the tv and internet for people to watch at home too.^

^the pace car led the way for the graduates. the graduates received their diplomas in their cars and then took a victory lap around the track. such a unique experience!^

^yay, colin!!!^

^colin gave a great valedictorian speech too!^

^after the ceremony at the racetrack, the seniors snuck back to the school to toss their hats outside in the courtyard.^

^the kissells had really great signs made up for colin and put in their front yard.^

^i can't believe colin is all grown up and graduating high school! i remember wearing that same green graduation robe and holding a tiny 2 year old colin in my arms when i graduated from notre dame 17 years ago!^

^the day finished off with with a custom cake and cookies for colin!^

simple beauty during quarantine

all of this time in quarantine certainly makes you slow down and notice the little things. i absolutely love these pictures ryan snapped on his phone a few nights ago. he was out watering the flowers as the sun was setting, and he captured the most beautiful images of the sun shining through our white azaleas. so pretty!

quarantine cooking: huevos rancheros

we got hungry for huevos rancheros recently. we had all of the ingredients and made them for dinner on the back screen porch. i'm not sure why i don't think of making them more often, they're so easy and yummy!

breaking free from quarantine for a little ice cream date

after all of that yard work, we thought we deserved a little treat. so, we broke free from quarantine to run out to one of our favorite local ice cream shops for a treat that we shared in the car. it was a fun little weeknight date!

quarantine yard work

being home is the perfect time to get our yard ready for the summer. the weather has been so lovely lately, and we have enjoyed spending time outside in our yard. i love seeing the yard in bloom . . .

^the azaleas are always so bright and cheery when they bloom!^

^more pretty pink in a hanging basket in our back yard^

^we have both purple and yellow irises in our back yard. the purple always bloom first.^

^we're also working on growing some sunflowers from seeds. we honestly didn't think they would do anything because the packets of seeds are so many years old! they are happily growing on the back screen porch for now.^

memorial day 2020 (quarantine edition)

we were so happy to be able to see our parents yesterday for memorial day! everyone came up to our house for a picnic on the screen porch. we had burgers, corn on the cob, tortellini salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, homemade pickles, and watermelon for lunch. for dessert we had rice pudding and patriotic red, white, and blue vanilla-almond cupcakes.

after lunch, we stretched our legs by taking a little walk. (we were all sweating by the end of the walk!) even though it was very hot outside, it was such a nice day!
