hawaii part 3 - pearl harbor

a trip to oahu would not be complete without seeing pearl harbor.  so, during one of the days that we were in hawaii, we visited pearl harbor for a step back into history.

we spent some time touring around the pearl harbor visitor center and the museum, then we took a ferry to the uss arizona memorial out in the middle of the harbor.  it was quite an experience to stand on the memorial over top of the sunken uss arizona.  afterward, we took a tour of the uss missouri battleship, and then peaked around the uss bowfin submarine.  we finished our day at pearl harbor by taking a drive through the national memorial cemetery of the pacific (commonly referred to as the punch bowl national cemetery).

love, laurie

It was very interesting to see especially since my father and uncle (your grandfather and great uncle)were stationed in Hawaii. Unfortunately, my uncle's life was lost at Pearl Harbor. It was great to pay respect to all the service men who served at that time.
