our "mother courage"

last night we lost our dear "doc" and we are left heartbroken and speechless.

she was our teacher, our mentor, our friend, our colleague, our aunt, and our adoptive mother.  she was family.

words cannot describe what she has done for us in nearly two decades.  she guided us through good times and bad.  she pushed us out of our comfort zones and forced us to grow.  she shaped us into the people we are today.  at times she made us laugh so hard we ended up crying, and other times she caused us to cry so hard that we ended up laughing.

she was larger than life and she was the life of every party.  she was also the one to be sure to tell us the brutal truth when it needed to be heard.

she wore many hats off stage and on stage.  out of all the roles she played on stage, one of her absolute favorites was mother courage.  she really was our mother courage.

taking one deep breath at a time today
love, laurie

What an excellent tribute to Doc. Your words are well-written, meaningful, and straight from the heart.
You are not alone, we all share your sadness and we are with you in spirit.
Keep all those wonderful moments alive in your heart and Doc will never be gone.

This is beautifully written and the photos are a wonderful representation of the decades spent together. It is heartbreaking to know that she is gone from us physically, but we will never ever forget her. She has been a special part of our family from the time we met her and through the years. We were honored to know her and blessed that we were able to spend time with her as often as we could. I cherish the two days that I recently was able to spend a bit of time with her, just sipping tea and talking. We will miss her terribly, but she is now at peace with the Lord and no longer in pain.
