i'm not a fan of the yellow stripey things that fly!

as the weather starts to get warmer, the insects start to come out.  just the other day in the parking lot of the dance studio where i teach, i opened my trunk and found some type of bee sitting on the ledge of the trunk.  it caught me by surprise and i jumped.  ryan found another bee dead in our garage too.

i'm not a fan of the various assortment of yellow stripey things that fly around when it's warmer.  my friend nicole shared this guide on facebook.  it's both informative and funny (i never thought of bumblebees as flying pandas before, still not sure i would want to pet one).

enjoy the weekend (and beware of the yellow stripey things that fly)!

love, laurie

Very informative and I learned a lot. I have seen many of these yellow stripey things, now I know who to stay away from. I know yellow jackets are just plain mean. I always love watching and "talking to" the Bumblebees as they pollinate the flowers on our deck. They are busy little beavers that go about their business collecting pollen, and pay no attention to me. Now I know I can pet them, like kitties.

I'm not sure that I want to pet the bumblebees, but I have found most of the bees let me alone while I am working in the garden. The wasps are another story; I don't trust any of them. Those cicada wasps are really scary looking and very large; my mom and dad had trouble with them building many nests in their yard. Fortunately they are only around when the cicadas are around.
