portland aerial tram

while we were in portland, oregon last week, we made a point of visiting the portland aerial tram.  before our trip, we kept reading that the aerial tram was one of the best ways to see portland, so we didn't want to miss it.  the aerial tram is part of portland's public transportation system and it links the south waterfront area to marquee hill.

there are 2 cabins (named jean and walt) which travel 3,300 feet at a speed of 22 mph.  the aerial tram climbs 500 feet above portland and offers some great views of the city.

we started at the bottom and rode the tram to the top.  (the trip takes 4 minutes each way.)  we were surprised how big the cabins were (each holds 79 passengers)!  at the top, we were able to get off and walk around the platform to admire the gorgeous views of the city.  we could see such a long way.  we even had a great view of snow-caped mt. hood in the distance!  from the top, we then rode the tram back down to the waterfront.  the tram was a really cool experience and a neat way to admire the city from above!

love, laurie

Wow, the views are great from up on top. That Mt. Hood sure is big!

What a view. Reminds me of the one in St. Martin or the ski resorts. That sure looks like fun.
