a rainy day in nyc - part 1

at work, our building has been under construction for the past several weeks.  last week, we found out that our building was going to be evacuated all day on monday due to the construction.  no one was allowed in the building, so we all got a day off work!  since we had a free day, we decided to do something fun.  so, yesterday we took a trip to nyc for the day.

we knew that there was some rain in the forecast, but we took a chance and decided to go.  (i mean, those weather forecasts are rarely correct anyway.)  we were really hoping that the weather would hold out for us, but unfortunately it did not.  it didn't just rain, it down poured!  needless to say, we spent a very rainy day in nyc.  despite the rain, we sure covered a lot of ground . . .

we started off our day by walking the high line.  even in the rain, the high line was so peaceful and beautiful.  it was amazing to walk above the hustle and bustle of the city and to look down on the streets.  the gardens along the high line were so pretty.  we got on at 30th street and walked all the way to the end of the high line in the meatpacking district.

we strolled through the west village and stopped at the original magnolia bakery to pick up a few cupcakes to bring back home with us.  we tried the blonde marble and the hummingbird.  (i think that their cupcake carrying boxes are just so cute!)

we grabbed lunch in nolita (north of little italy) at tacombi.  there is such a neat vibe in there.  we shared guacamole, a pork taco, a chicken quesadilla, and corn esquites.  their corn esquites was so good!  i have to figure out a way to make that at home now.

after lunch, we grabbed dessert in nolita at rice to riches based on several people's recommendations.  let me tell you, it did not disappoint!  their rice pudding was so good!  (and, they served it in the coolest container with the coolest spoons too . . . which we got to keep.)  we shared two different flavors: the chocolate chip flirt and the sex, drugs, and rocky road.  both were amazing!

after stuffing ourselves full of rice pudding, we walked past little itay, through chinatown, and over to two bridges before heading to brooklyn.

stay tuned for our adventures in brooklyn tomorrow!

love, laurie

Look like fun day of sightseeing and food. Crazy names for rice pudding.
