pit and peak

without a doubt, the kardashians are a crazy family.  they sure do and say a lot of inappropriate things, but there is one family tradition that they have that i actually like.  when they were younger, their dad would have them sit around the dinner table at the end of each day and they would each share the pit and the peak of their day.  i think that's such a nice little way to reflect on the low points of the day and the high points that make the low points seem not so bad.

i thought of this "kardashianism" yesterday as i was walking across campus to teach class.  right as i was getting ready to leave the building where my office is, it started down pouring.  it was raining so hard that the rain was sheeting sideways!  i had to get to class (on the complete opposite side of campus) and i couldn't take my car because there are few parking spaces near the building where i teach class.  i made a run for it and held my umbrella tight as i ran across campus.  there was so much water collecting on the sidewalks and running all over the place that at one point the water was over my ankles.  so much for my shoes!  i should have just taken them off and run barefoot.  by the time i reached my classroom i was totally soaked.  i had to wring the water out of my skirt and take off my shoes to pour water out of them.  it was crazy.  i taught class soaking wet, and i had to sit in my wet clothes for the rest of the day at work.  by far that was the pit of my day yesterday.

i can't even begin to tell you how happy i was to take a shower and to put on some warm and dry clothes when i got home from work.  later in the evening, i looked outside and i saw that the rain had stopped and the sky had brightened up.  the sky looked like it was painted purple with glowing orange clouds streaked through it.  it was absolutely beautiful.  it was such a simple thing, but seeing that sky was the peak of my day.  it totally made up for the soggy day that i had at work.  (i just wish i had gotten a picture of it!)

sometimes it's nice to stand back and reflect on our day, both the good and the bad parts.  i guess that's one lesson we can learn from the kardashians!

what was the pit and the peak of your day?
love, laurie

I like that saying. Thank you! Most of the time I dwell on the pits and forget the peaks. After awhile you feel like you are in a pit and can't get out. I will try to do that each day and start climbing out of the pit.
